Srinagar, July 22 (IANS) A gunfight started on Sunday between a group of militants and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
Police said security forces acting on specific information launched a cordon and search operation in Khudwani village of south Kashmir.

“As the cordon was tightened, hiding militants opened fire triggering an encounter,” police said.

Authorities have suspended mobile Internet services in Kulgam and Anantnag districts as a precautionary measure.

In the same district, militants abducted and killed a trainee police constable, Muhammad Saleem Shah on Saturday.

The trainee had come home on leave from Kathua Police Training School.
