Mahajan to take part in South Asian Speakers' Summit

New Delhi, July 10 (IANS) Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan will take part in the third South Asian Speakers’ Summit in Colombo on July 11-12 which will discuss ways for promoting regional parliamentary cooperation for sustainable and equitable economic growth.
A Lok Sabha Secretariat release said that the delegates will deliberate on various topics under the overall theme of “Promoting regional parliamentary cooperation for sustainable, equitable and green economic growth”.
The sessions will discuss role of sustainable and green industrialisation in realising of SDGs in South Asia, role of parliamentarians in promoting decent work and safe and secure working environments and their role as promoters of social and economic inclusion in South Asia.
An outcome document will also be adopted after the summit.
The release said that Mahajan will be accompanied by MP Bhubaneshwar Kalita and Lok Sabha Secretary General Snehlata Shrivastava.
Apart from India, presiding officers of parliaments of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka constitute the South Asian Speakers’ Forum.
The last summit was held at India’s Indore and this year’s summit will carry forward the consensus arrived in the Indore Declaration.
